The Eroica now comes mainly from the Evergreen Vineyard in the Ancient Lakes AVA, though this wine includes 11% of the fruit from the Viewcrest Vineyard in the Yakima Valley. The 2023 vintage was marked by a cool spring and slow going in April that sped up markedly in May—a vintage of quality marked by lower yields and evening ripening across the Columbia Valley. This wine has a buoyant minerality; aromas of cardamom spice are framed by flinty smoke and stony-driven minerality. The lively character with lime pith and soaring tart citrus indicate that this is a decidedly young Riesling that will undoubtedly mellow in the bottle. There's a brilliant mineral streak which will evolve alongside the rest of the palate.
The 2023 Riesling mixes savory herbal tones with lemon zest and wet stones. It reverberates with zesty tension and nearly salty minerality as candied citrus tones mix with a twang of sour melon. The finish is long yet squeaky clean, leaving a cooling freshness and minty herbal air to linger.
The 2023 Eroica Riesling Dr Loosen, matured for 12 months in stainless steel, has open-knit aromas of peach, pineapple, lemongrass and slate. The light-bodied palate balances linear acidity with 17.6 grams of residual sugar, and it has satisfying, flavorful finish. 12,000 cases produced.
