Available only direct from the winery, the 2021 Zinfandel Napa Valley comes from Calistoga, where Rombauer has planted four blocks of Zinfandel to the Deaver clone. Aged in a mix of French and American oak (15% new), it offers up lightly smoky, tarry notes, quickly followed by briary, blackberry-like fruit. Bright and vibrant in the mouth, it's medium to full-bodied, with a silky mouthfeel and fine-grained, elegant tannins on the lingering finish.
94% Zinfandel, 6% Petite Sirah aged 14 months in American (10% new) and French oak. The winery purchased a facility in Plymouth, CA, in the Sierra Foothills, giving them access to these 120-130-year-old Zinfandel vines, also where this wine is produced. On the palate, it is rich, full flavoured with a solid core of black cherry fruit and ripe, farmer's market strawberries laced with vanilla and clove spices. Deeply concentrated and nicely polished for the size of the production, which hits around 35,000 cases.
