The NV Barolo Chinato from Vajra is a pretty wine with intense aromatics and lovely nuance to match its mid-weight personality. I typically do not review Chinatos because it is a NV wine and specific lot information is hard to identify. This current release from Vajra (Lot 15.190), however, is terrific. The base wine, a 2011 Barolo, gives the Chinato soft contours to match its racy feel.

Made with Barolo wine from the Piedmont region, this vermouth-like apéritif has a dark plum hue, lots of dark fruit and a savory spiciness that suggests dill, eucalyptus and dry cinnamon.
